A focused approach

Going forward, I'm making an attempt to write and discuss topics related to psychology, neuroscience and everything that is fascinating about research and academics...all this intersperced with the random thoughts of course :)

Amen!

the greedy duckling

This one jumped into our boat while punting, greedy for the McCoy's chips we were carrying
Quite scary when it tried pecking our fingers! (was successful when my friend had her back turned)

England- a damp place? cold? rain?

Where on earth is all of that?
Bloody hell i say, people let's be a little more conscious and save the atmosphere and all that
I came here to England to escape the Indian tropical heat
Little did I know :(

The Blue Envelope

So i wrote this little rant about 10 years back, so it's a tad juvenile and maybe my ignorance about African culture comes through (Agatha, thanks for all the tribe education you gave me)

____________________________________________________________________

A Blue Envelope lay in front of the door. It said, “ Brother come back to me, I’m scared. Don’t leave me.” Alan stood still staring at the paper. Suddenly he sees a flash of light and a face of and unknown man, warning him and a younger boy not to enter the cave. Alan comes out of his reverie, sweating profusely. He vigorously shakes his head, sipping his beer, tries to for get the incident.

After a day or two, the door bell rings and as Alan opens it, he finds another blue envelope. He freezes on the doorstep. Cautiously, he bends down to pick it up only to find anther message saying, “ Brother, come back to me! I’m scared. Don’t leave me!” A flash of light surrounds Alan again. This time he sees himself and the younger boy inside the cave and, the younger boy being pulled by some strong force, and he screaming “Silava, Silava!”

Alan falls on the ground with shock. When he snaps off his nightmare, he repeats the name “Silava” as though trying to find some kind of resemblence. “ Someone’s playing a joke”, he thought.

After a week, the 3’rd envelope reaches his door. Alan’s face turns white in fear. He starts shaking and sweating profusely. With trembling hands, he hesitantly picks up the letter. A crisp handwriting says, “Brother I’m waiting for you. Please save me.”

All of a sudden, a great force enters Alan. He sees himself being brought up among the Mumbasa Tribe of Africa, playing with the younger boy, a lady yelling, “ Amoro, Silava, don’t fight. Come hope…it’s late!”, both of them going to the same old man whom he saw in the first dream, the old man warning them about the cave, both of them inside the cave, and the force pulling Silava away, screaming, “Amoro please come, don’t leave me brother, I’m scared”. Amoro screams back, “ Where are you?, Silava come back.” And Silava keeps pleading for Amoro to come back and save him.

At that moment, Alan snaps out of his episode, his head spinning from the nightmare and suddenly he hears a voice calling him. He swings around only to find Silava’s tearful face staring at him from the window…calling out to him, “ Amoro, please save me brother. Please!” Alan finds himself moving towards the window saying, “ Silava, wait…I’m coming to save you, Silava don’t go…I’m coming!” Alan runs towards the window, when Silava’s face seemed to go further away. Alan screams, “ Silava, wait!” and jumps down from the window and dies.

Silava turned around and smiled with the demons.

Observations

Two random things that come to mind...as of now

1) Are pets, hmmm specifically dogs, a reflection of their owner/s...by that i refer to the person/ family's personalities and way of life etc

2) When someone snores (snoring patterns), does it tell you something about that person?

Thoughts, opinions and the like are welcome :)

System shutdown

I think most of us have faced this at some point in our lives

When you've been working on your PCs, laptops...it's been a long day of staring into the screen
Much effort has gone into your excel sheets, word pages, programming stuff etc etc
You then come to the end of the day, thinking, 'ah, i can finally close this'
Then you click on the explorer button to 'shut down/turn off' the system

It then says, 'saving data', and then quickly progresses to 'shutting down' and then you're just about to take a deep breath, or the deep breath is half held when...

The shutting down process has taken more than a minute...you wait cursing the damn microsoft updates, thinking these things could not have better timing! And yet your damn computer has you waiting and waiting and waiting

You finally think to yourself, 'enough is enough...f#&$ this', pull the plug and be done with it

Why am I talking about this at length? Well it's happening to me as well...only difference is that it's my brain system that refuses to shutdown and sleep! and no plug to pull and be done with it!

Morbid?

Errors

Do pardon the errors in earlier posts
Its just that one rarely knows what to write on
And when the thought comes, one has to dash off immediately
Before the thought slips out
Am sure this happens to all
And one also doesn't like to go back and revise
To keep with the authenticity of the post :)

Cheers!
