Get 'em when they're young

The best pupils of propaganda and indoctrination are young children. It only takes an elder, a role model, a school text book, media, to reinforce an idea, any idea. It's sad to think that the world today is just a manifestation of all those collective ideas of hate and intolerance that has been festering over decades.

Read this article, and no, it's not only limited to Israel and Palestine...one only needs to dig a little deeper to see how this exercise has been operating in other countries

The story of X

While growing up, I used to come across stories with the same theme-the good ol' charming prince rescuing princess, and how boys are big, brave and burly whereas girls are always the one waiting to be rescued etc., it's kinda twisted that we force our expectations and gender stereotypes on kids early on.

Till I came across this story- it's charming and worth sharing with your child :-)

The scientific baby

So Alison Gopnik is visiting the city and giving a series of lectures...pretty amazing stuff.

It's also pretty scary and exciting that I get to do a 10-minute presentation of my research ideas and she'll be a part of the audience! Gulp! Think my life is finally heading in the right direction

Here's a link of Alison's TED talk...go science and go babies!

Evolving emotions

Apparently one of Darwin's creepy experiments

It is when you look at the physician's face, what joy to poke someone's face

Poof! And I'm back...

Yes, yes..2011- current hasn't been exactly great; in fact it was one with a lot of changes and you know how neurons take their time to restructure and accommodate some new connections. Ok, so that's Geek for 'I was preoccupied'

So, blogosphere, let me have a go one more time, no promises like last time :-).

Here's to a journey in a new country

So I don't feel as stupid after all

I've always been amazed by people who can write or think on their laptop/desktop and don't need any paper to do so. I, on the other hand, do the 'dated' thing of thinking on paper...I cannot make as much sense of things when I read it on screen than when I read it on paper

Till I came across this article, I was rather embarrassed of being the only tech-age nincompoop I know...this does not completely reassure me, but hey at least I have some perspective to my problem...can't get away with it for much longer though, sigh!

Can't help but agree

Considering everyone's focusing on the number of variables, methodology, complicated statistics, etc. to deem the 'publishability', (ok, that's a poor attempt at a neologism), of a study, Paul Rozin takes a step back to assess how psychology and observation of human nature have changed over the years.

For someone special

Dipti Nair,

You're an awesome person...the loveliest of them all...thanks for taking such good care of me :)

Given enough time, I think almost all of us will meet criteria to have a psychiatric problem...here's why

I guess it's just me...but I don't know why everything people do these days adds up to some underlying psychiatric condition

Herd Behaviour

So apparently herd behaviour starts fairly early
Here's a link to the blogpost that covers three separate studies that suggest this disconcerting thought

One Random Fact

I found this one particularly intriguing
It's at least sparked off a new thread that I can look into

'You cannot snore and dream at the same time.'
